The Crucible Scheme of Work
B and D Publishing’s scheme of work on The Crucible by Arthur Miller. The resource pack contains notes and questions on the text, differentiated worksheets, written and oral assignments and work on characters, vocabulary and revision questions. The workbook can also be used by pupils for revision, homework and home learning.
The Crucible is an important play often studied at key stage 4. Written in 1953, it is a dramatised and partially fictionalised story of the Salem witch trials that took place in the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1692. Miller saw in the Salem witch trials parallels with the trials of people accused of being communists in 1950s America. The themes explored in The Crucible, the nature of good and evil, the individual conscience and the abuse of power, are as relevant today as they were then.
